Another criminal case against the RCFS

On September 23, 2005, the Executive Director of the Russian-Chechen Friendship Society (RCFS), Stanislav Dmitrievsky, learned that as early as September 2, 2005, a criminal case had been initiated against the Society under Art. 199 part 1 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation ("tax evasion").

The investigator informed S. Dmitrievsky about the initiation of the case during interrogation as a witness. No one has yet been charged in the case. However, given that Dmitrievsky is the only official in the RCFS who makes decisions on financial matters, in fact, he should be considered the main suspect.

The case is based on the materials of the tax audit, in particular, the decision to bring the taxpayer to tax liability, which is currently being challenged in the arbitration court and suspended by the court.

S. Dmitrievsky has already been charged in another criminal case under Art. 282 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation ("incitement of hatred").

The RCFS considers the persecution of the RCFS to be motivated and aimed at the liquidation of the human rights organization.

On October 6, 2005, a picket was held in Moscow near the building of the Federal Tax Service of Russia in support of the Russian-Chechen Friendship Society.

More than 50 people took part in the action, including representatives of the Civic Assistance Committee, the Moscow Helsinki Group, the Memorial Society, the Demos Center, Amnesty International, the Movement For Human Rights, well-known Russian human rights activists and journalists - Lyudmila Alekseeva, Anna Politkovskaya, Sergey Kovalev, Valentin Gefter, Yuri Samodurov, Lev Ponomarev and others.
