Stanislav Dmitrievsky faces up to five years in prison

On September 29, 2005, Stanislav Dmitrievsky, editor-in-chief of the Pravo-Zashchita newspaper, was indicted. Dmitrievsky is accused of committing a crime under the charge of committing a crime under Art. 282 part 2 p. "b" of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation. The maximum punishment provided for under this article is imprisonment for up to 5 years.

The indictment states that S. Dmitrievsky did not plead guilty to the charges. According to the investigation, Dmitrievsky's guilt was proved by the conclusions of an expert from the Volga Regional Forensic Examination Center. It should be noted that the prosecution is based on the findings of only one expert, the investigation rejected the petitions of Dmitrievsky and his defense counsel to conduct a second examination.

"This case has a very obvious political motivation, and is directed against freedom of speech and freedom of the media in Russia," Dmitrievsky said.

Having received the indictment, S. Dmitrievsky filed a motion to dismiss his case for lack of corpus delicti.
