Racist incident in Petrozavodsk

In the article "We like it here", published on the website "Courier of Karelia", in the context of a discussion of the problem of foreign students, it is reported about a racist incident that occurred in Petrozavodsk in the summer of 2005. Students from Argentina Tayo and John told the author of the article about an attack on a Nigerian student. The details of the incident are unknown. According to the Argentines, "the guy got it seriously" , and the "ambulance" refused to come. Assistance was rendered to the Nigerian by the militiamen - guards who were on duty near the railway station, who were approached by the friends of the victim.

Representatives of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Karelia, unlike the militia of a number of other regions, do not deny the presence of skinheads in the city, emphasizing that their "activity" so far rarely affects foreigners. Here is how an operative officer of the Department for Combating Organized Crime of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of the Republic commented on the situation: “At the moment, skinheads are not carrying out any serious actions whatsoever. there are no students in Karelia" .
