Agitators were detained in Kovrov

On October 14, 2005, in Kovrov, Vladimir Region, police detained proxies of Irina Tabatskova, a candidate for mayor of the city, who were distributing the newspaper "Vladimirsky Krai".

As a representative of the Kovrov GUVD told a REGNUM correspondent, a forged newspaper "Vladimirsky Krai" was distributed in the city with negative campaigning against Irina Tabatskova, which the mayoral candidate reported to the OVD. Therefore, the cars, in which the candidate's proxies and Tabatskova herself were, were stopped and taken to the city police department. Packs of newspapers "Vladimirsky Krai" were found in them, but as it turned out during the inspection, they were real.

Two hours later, all the detainees were released. I. Tabatskova expressed indignation at the actions of the police. "Instead of using the time allotted by law for campaigning, we were kept by the police ," she said.

Elections in Kovrov were held on October 16, 2005.
