Seizure of the circulation of the newspaper "Express-Kamchatka"

On October 20, 2005 police officers of the city of Yelizovo, Kamchatka region, detained a car with a print run of the Express-Kamchatka newspaper dedicated to the unification of Kamchatka and Koryakia. The driver and forwarder were escorted to the police station and interrogated, the circulation was confiscated. The arrest from circulation was lifted only on October 21, 2005 after the intervention of the leadership of the regional election commission of the Kamchatka region and the Internal Affairs Directorate of the Kamchatka region.

As it turned out, the seizure was initiated by one of the candidates for the post of head of Yelizovo, where elections will be held on Sunday. He became aware in advance of the content of one of the published articles, which allegedly damages his reputation.

The newspaper's editors filed a complaint against the actions of the employees of the Elizovsky police department to the presidential envoy in the Far Eastern Federal District, the governor of the Kamchatka region and the chairman of the Union of Journalists of the Russian Federation.
