Attack on Ivan Starikov
On the night of October 27-28, 2005, Ivan Starikov, a member of the Federal Political Council of the Union of Right Forces (SPS), was beaten in Moscow. Near his house on Udaltsova Street, two unknown men in knitted black hats attacked the politician and, after beating him, disappeared.
As I. Starikov himself said, the attackers were not interested in his wallet, mobile phone, or car keys. According to the victim, as a result of the attack he suffered bruises on his head and his teeth were badly damaged.
Starikov suggests that this incident may be connected with the fact that he was the initiator of Mikhail Khodorkovsky’s candidacy for by-elections to the State Duma, or with the situation around the village of Pyatnitsa near Moscow, where he defends the interests of the owners of cottages scheduled for demolition.
The Presidium of the Federal Political Council of the Union of Right Forces issued a statement on October 28, 2005, in which it claims that the attack on Starikov was committed for political reasons and requires an “immediate and competent investigation” from Moscow law enforcement agencies.
