Radical nationalists of the Pskov region

According to Pskov human rights activists, as of 2004, several right-wing radical organizations are active in Pskov and the region. This is reported in the report of Anna Vanina, director of the Pskov Outback NGO, published in October 2005.

In addition to skinheads, which can hardly be called an organization, the Russian National Unity (RNE), the Freedom Party, the Union of Veneds (neopagans), the People's Patriotic Union of Russia operate in the region. All listed organizations are not numerous. In Pskov they have up to 30-40 members each. Only the Party of Freedom in Pskov has more than 100 people (we note that earlier the Pskov branches of the Party of Freedom and the Union of Wends were closely connected with each other and were often represented by the same people - ed. ) .

Until 2004, right-wing radicals tried to avoid publicity, limited themselves to depicting fascist symbols on the walls of buildings, distributing leaflets and periodicals, beating up representatives of ethnic minorities (unfortunately, more detailed information about manifestations of ethnically motivated violence is not given in the report - ed. ).

However, in 2004 the activity of these groups became more active.

The main gathering places for representatives of these organizations are both one of the central squares of the city of Pskov (skinheads) and a park on the outskirts of the city (pagans). Groups of pagans have been created at the Pskov Pedagogical Institute, the Pskov Polytechnic Institute (headed by Vladimir Baranov, teacher at the Pskov Polytechnic Institute). Meetings are held not only in the regional center, but also in other cities of the region, but there are no permanent gathering places there.
