November 13, 2005 in St. Petersburg, on Ligovsky Prospekt at the entrance to the Bukvoed store, a 20-year-old musician, guitarist of the Sandinista! and "Distress", St. Petersburg State University student Timur Kacharava and wounded 20-year-old university student Maxim Zgibai.
According to preliminary information, a group of young people attacked the students. (According to various sources, from 8 to 12 people aged 17-20 years).
Timur Kacharava died on the spot from five stab wounds to the neck. The second student with a closed craniocerebral injury, concussion and a cut wound of the chest was hospitalized in a serious condition at the Mariinsky hospital. The attackers fled in the direction of the Grand Concert Hall "Oktyabrsky". Outside police squads failed to detain anyone.
According to law enforcement agencies, neo-Nazis could have attacked the musicians, as the victims had repeatedly participated in anti-fascist events. On the day of the attack, the victims carried out another anti-fascist action "Food instead of bombs" - they handed out meals to the homeless near the Vladimirskaya metro station.
According to one of the participants, during the rally a policeman approached them and asked them to "get off quickly with their food" , explaining that there are a lot of skinheads around, and he "doesn't need problems" . Young people, having finished distributing food, went to the Uprising Square. Skinheads attacked T.Kacharava and M.Zgibai, who had fallen behind.
It is also known that Timur Kacharava at one time played in the Distress group, whose songs were described as " "messages on the theme of the sick state of affairs in society, short, vicious and extremely straightforward .
On the fact of the murder of Timur Kacharava and the attempt on the life of Maxim Zgibay, the prosecutor's office of the Central District of St. Petersburg opened a criminal case.
