After the recent pogroms at the Jewish cemetery in St. Petersburg, the Committee for Economic Development, Industrial Policy and Trade of the city administration will take the cemetery under protection. An agreement on this was reached during a meeting between Chief Rabbi of the city Menachem Mendl Pevzner and head of the Jewish community Mark Grubarg with committee chairman Vladimir Blank.
The Committee will allocate funds for the restoration of destroyed tombstones and will take part in the development of a long-term program for the protection of the cemetery.
