On December 21, 2005, the site of the Institute "Collective Action" reported that in Yakutia, on a formal basis, the Society for the Protection of Consumer Rights, which defends the rights of citizens violated in the construction industry, is being liquidated.
According to representatives of Yakut NGOs, a representative of the Registration Chamber of the Republic of Sakha (Yakutia) filed a lawsuit to liquidate the public organization "Society for the Protection of Consumer Rights of Yakutsk" under the pretext that the Registration Chamber did not receive information about its activities. The head of the society, Zinaida Altukhova, claims that the information was sent by mail and could be lost. She expressed bewilderment at such a harsh reaction from state bodies, since during the 10 years of the existence of the Society there were no claims against it.
The only explanation put forward is that the Society is being liquidated so that it cannot sue in a lawsuit against builders of substandard housing.
Human rights activists believe, notes the website of the Institute "Collective Action", that in this case, the inconsistency of punishment is also associated with amendments to the notorious draft law on NGOs.
