In St. Petersburg, the investigation into the desecration of a Jewish cemetery has been completed

On December 27, 2005, the Department for the Investigation of Particularly Important Cases of the St. Petersburg Prosecutor's Office completed the investigation of a criminal case on the fact of desecration of burial places on the territory of the Jewish Preobrazhensky cemetery. The case was sent to the Nevsky Federal Court.

The case was opened on 30 December 2004 by the Nevsky District Prosecutor's Office. A minor has been brought to justice. He was charged under paragraphs "a", "b" part 2 of article 244 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation ("desecration of the burial places of the dead, damage and desecration of burial places, grave structures and cemetery buildings intended for ceremonies in connection with the burial dead and their commemoration, committed by a group of persons by prior agreement, on the grounds of national hatred and enmity").

During the investigation, it was established that the suspect and seven of his acquaintances desecrated the graves in the cemetery. According to the prosecutor's office, the crime was committed on the basis of national hatred and enmity. Currently, operational measures are being taken to identify all participants in the crime.
