Attack in a Moscow synagogue

January 11, 2006 during the evening prayer for the parishioners of the Moscow synagogue on the street. Bolshaya Bronnaya was attacked . 20-year-old Muscovite Alexander Koptsev went to the prayer hall, where he shouted "Heil Hitler! I'll kill you!" attacked the parishioners and stabbed eight visitors. Synagogue rabbi Yitzhak Kogan, his son and guards managed to detain Koptsev by joint efforts.

An employee of the private security company Gennady Kulikov, who was on duty at the entrance to the synagogue, was the first victim. When he tried to stop A. Koptsev, who went through the frame of the metal detector, after which the device signaled the presence of metal on the visitor's body, Koptsev stabbed the guard in the temple and went on. The second guard was not on duty at the time.

According to the prosecutor's office, the attacker had not previously been prosecuted and was not related to extremist organizations. There are suspicions about his mental inadequacy. The attacker will undergo a psychiatric examination.

He gives the impression of a completely sane person, he does not repent of his deed at all. A. Koptsev speaks to the police officers calmly, while his gaze is focused and detached. He has never been a skinhead, although he sympathizes with this movement.

According to the father of A. Koptsev, all day on January 11, his son was at home and played a computer game in which the postman, suddenly going crazy, takes a knife, goes out into the streets of London and starts killing passers-by.

During a search of A. Koptsev's apartment, ammunition (more than 60 cartridges) and a list of addresses of three Moscow synagogues were found, as well as Nazi literature and symbols. The Moscow prosecutor's office, which is investigating the incident, is considering, among other things, the version of the nationalist background of the attack.

As a result of the incident, 9 people were injured, four (according to other sources - five) of them were hospitalized. The detainee was also sent to the hospital, but has now been discharged.

A. Koptsev explains the motives of the deed simply: "Life has not been successful, foreigners - "blacks", Chinese and Jews - interfere with Russia's life . He himself, personally, cannot fix anything, but he is trying to draw attention to this problem with the help of such an attack. the young man repeatedly told the investigators that he was sure he was right. "I did what I wanted, I went to this for a long time ," he stressed.
