On February 1, 2006, the Red Youth Vanguard planned to hold a conference in Moscow to coincide with the upcoming G8 summit in St. Petersburg. The participants of the event were detained at the Sukharevskaya metro station, where a gathering was scheduled.
Most of the activists were detained by the police without explanation while still in the train cars and at the exits of the subway. Two hours before the start, buses with riot police were brought to the premises where the event was planned to be held.
