A Samara court has declared illegal a warning issued to a nationalist newspaper about inciting ethnic hatred

At the end of January 2005, the Oktyabrsky District Court of Samara satisfied the claim of the editor of Volzhskaya Zarya, Alexander Muratov, against the Volga Region Department of the Federal Service for Supervision of Compliance with Legislation in the Sphere of Mass Communications and the Protection of Cultural Heritage (Rosokhrakultura) and declared the warning about inciting ethnic hatred illegal issued to the publication.

According to the complainant, the warning issued restricts Mr. Muratov's rights “as an editor and a citizen” , and the text of the warning does not substantiate the conclusions drawn. The Court agreed with this assertion.

Rosokhrankultura has the right to appeal the court's decision.
