Combating anti-Semitism at an additional cost

In early February 2006, the Jewish community of Kaliningrad applied to the prosecutor's office with a request to seize books that incited ethnic hatred and punish the people responsible for their distribution, indicating the exact addresses of these stalls. The community financed the purchase of four books, which, according to the legal department of the Federation of Jewish Communities of the Russian Federation, are nationalistic. The next step was to be an independent review. The answer came from the prosecutor's office: "This study is expensive. The cost will be determined by the expert after reviewing the scope of the task. The legislation does not provide funding from the prosecutor's office for such studies. You need to contact senior expert Sarkisova T.A." . Having contacted the said person, the representatives of the community found out that the examination would cost them 60,000 rubles.

They were also offered to pay for the examination of the anti-Semitic article "Grasshoppers in Jaffa", published in the newspaper "Kaliningradskaya Iskra" (an organ of the Communist Party). Moreover, to pay all the same civil servant T. Sarkisova, who will conduct such research during working hours and, accordingly, not for nothing.

Recall that on January 26, 2006, a meeting was held in Kaliningrad between Chief Rabbi of the Kaliningrad Region David Shvedik and ghetto prisoner, WWII veteran Yakov Sukhovolsky with Governor Georgy Boos, Chief Prosecutor of the Region V. Zinyk, and Chief of the Department of Internal Affairs of the Kaliningrad Region Kirichenko, at which, in particular, the the issue of a ban on the sale of anti-Semitic literature in the city's bookstores.
