Chairman of the Spiritual Board of Muslims of the Nizhny Novgorod Region Umar-Khazrat Idrisov addressed the participants of the scientific-practical conference "St. George's Readings" held on February 17 in Nizhny Novgorod, dedicated to the day of memory of the founder of Nizhny Novgorod, Prince Georgy Vsevolodovich. The readings were organized by the Nizhny Novgorod diocese, and representatives of the DUMNO were not invited. The DUMNO website notes that Muslims still invite the Orthodox to such events.

In this regard, the head of the spiritual administration addressed the conference participants.

"I was born and raised in Nizhny Novgorod, and I know better than anyone else that Nizhny Novgorod is a city where a sense of respect for people of other faiths and nationalities, absorbed with mother's milk, lives in the minds of people," the appeal says .

Idrisov recalled that representatives of many nationalities and confessions live in the region, so "the people of Nizhny Novgorod, like probably no one else in Russia, have been accustomed by history to live in peace with their neighbors." “More recently, under the late Bishop Nikolai, we could well consider ourselves such an example,” recalls the head of the DUMNO and expresses the hope that “the current situation will change, and Nizhny will be able to fully declare itself as a city of the world of religions” .
