On February 19, 2006, an Israeli citizen, a 23-year-old student of the Pedagogical University named after A.I. Herzen.
According to preliminary data, several unidentified persons attacked the student at house N 30 on Grazhdansky Prospekt, beat him up and fled the scene. One of the dormitories of the Polytechnic University is located in this area. Apparently an Israeli citizen was heading there.
The victim sought medical help on February 20, 2006. Doctors from the First Medical Institute diagnosed him with a closed craniocerebral injury and concussion.
It should be noted that Gennady Bordovsky, the rector of the Pedagogical University, refused to meet with journalists in the reception room. Neither the name of the victim, nor the faculty at which he studies are reported. It also does not say if there have been similar attacks before. A ban has been imposed on the topic of incidents involving foreign students at the university.
On the fact of the attack, the Central Internal Affairs Directorate for St. Petersburg and the Leningrad Region began an investigation. Operatives adhere to the version of "conflict on domestic grounds" . However, the possibility of anti-Semitic beatings is not ruled out, since in St. Petersburg recently there have been regular attacks by members of nationalist youth groups on foreign students.
