On February 26, 2006, it became known that Yury Padalko, a lawyer from the initiative group of the Tagansky district, had been beaten up. The case was initiated under Art. 318 part 2 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation ("use of violence dangerous to life and health against a representative of authority").
The background of events is as follows. On February 16, 2006, Yuri Padalko and several other residents of the Tagansky District gave interviews to correspondents of the Vesti-Moskva program about their struggle for Maly Tagansky Square. Journalists began to film the construction site, which was noticed by private security. In front of numerous witnesses, the guards tried to break the TV camera and beat Y. Padalko, who wanted to stop one of the attackers.
In connection with the fact of the beating, the lawyer wrote a statement to the Taganskoye police department, but one of the private security officers wrote a counter statement, where he claimed that Padalko entered the construction site and beat him - according to this statement, a case was initiated against Y. Padalko.
