On March 10, 2006, a rally against extremism was held in St. Petersburg. About 20 students from St. Petersburg universities gathered at the Smolny Palace with slogans "Let's clean the city from the brown plague" , "True terrorists are fascists" , etc. On one of the posters with the inscription "Who's next?" the dates of the most recent attacks on foreign students were given. Activists of the Yabloko party and the public organization Oborona also took part in the rally.
During the picket, officers of the 76th police department detained one of the organizers of the action - Alexander Shurshev, head of the Yabloko youth branch. Law enforcers detained A. Shurshev to draw up a protocol on an administrative offense, since the action was unsanctioned.
