A round table on the problems of xenophobia and extremism was held in Moscow

On March 15, 2006, a "round table" was held in Moscow on the problems of extremism and xenophobia. Representatives of major media, public figures, members of the Public Chamber took part in the work of the "round table".

Valery Tishkov, Chairman of the Public Chamber Commission on Tolerance and Freedom of Conscience, Director of the Institute of Ethnology and Anthropology of the Russian Academy of Sciences, called on representatives of the Russian media to "agree on ... fundamental things" in covering interethnic and interreligious issues, not providing a "platform" for speeches by odious personalities.

According to V. Tishkov, people who came to journalism in the early 90s. their professional credo of the last century, made "the assertion of independence" , as a result of which "the possibilities of collective ethics and self-control" were lost .

The participants of the round table will take part in the activities of the working group of the Public Chamber on the development of a program to combat xenophobia and extremism, which will be discussed at the plenary session of the Chamber on April 14.
