Alexander Koptsev was found to be of limited sanity

On March 14, 2006, at a regular court hearing in the case of an attack on the parishioners of a Moscow synagogue, the opinion of experts from the Serbsky State Scientific Center for Social and Forensic Psychiatry on the mental state of the defendant Alexander Koptsev was announced.

According to the results of the examination, A. Koptsev currently has a schizotypal personality disorder. As expert N. Butylina explained during the meeting, this is "a condition that can be called limited sanity, it is of a chronic nature . "

According to prosecutor Kira Gudim, no disorder was noted at the time of the crime, but "it had an impact on Koptsev's behavior and prevented him from fully realizing the danger of his actions . "

In turn, the lawyer Vadim Klyuvgat, representing the interests of several victims, told reporters that the actions of A. Koptsev fall under Article 22 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation (on the criminal liability of persons with mental disorders that do not exclude sanity), and these persons are subject to criminal liability.
