Panic on right-wing sites

In late February - early March 2006, police detained two right-wing radical activists who were actively promoting hatred on the Internet.

was conducted On February 28, in Kaliningrad, a search at the apartment of the leader of the local branch of the Movement against Illegal Immigration (DPNI), Alexei Safin (he was soon detained himself , but then released on bail), and on March 4, Igor Mogilev was detained in the Astrakhan region , who appears to be the leader of several regional organizations, the most famous of which are the LDPR of Zhirinovsky, the DPNI and the People's National Party of A. Ivanov (Sukharevsky).

Both right-wing radicals were charged with inciting ethnic and religious hatred (Article 282 of the Criminal Code), including for their publications on the Internet. The website of the Kaliningrad branch of the DPNI disappeared.

The news of this provoked a real panic on right-wing radical Internet sites, primarily those of Russian providers. Since March 1, sites that were directly connected with the detainees or the organizations they represented, and some other sites too, began hastily removing the most odious materials from their pages, or became completely inaccessible.

Only one right-wing website - "In the last hour" - openly announced that before the end of the trial in the case of I. Mogilev, he was removing his articles and other materials from their pages, on which the prosecutor's office of the Astrakhan region began to conduct an audit. The neo-Nazi newspaper Cerberus Liberty, one of the papers under investigation, announced on its website that access to the paper was temporarily unavailable. From the site of the "Community of Vagtarey", the main author and ideologist of which is I. Mogilev, all the content of its main pages, including the facade, was removed.

Some sites simply turned out to be inaccessible without announcing the reasons, such as the site "People's Protection" or the site of the Tula branch of the DPNI (later restored). Others claimed technical reconstruction, such as the site of the DPNI-associated organization Civil Self-Defense, which represents activists who organized several anti-Azerbaijani actions in Moscow (on March 20, it was reported that this site was blocked "for violating hosting rules or late payment for services " ). Access to these Internet resources was limited from a few hours to several days.

In total, about two dozen right-wing radical sites were out of order. Some of them don't work even now. In particular, the Youth National Patriotic Portal with the entire block of sites located on it (including the above-mentioned "Cerberus of Freedom", resources of Tyumen, Tver and Kurgan skinheads, etc.) was blocked by its American provider due to the exhaustion of bandwidth (bandwidth limit). The portal did not respond for more than a day, so it was clearly not a technical malfunction (either a hacker attack, or the closure of the site under the guise of such). Now the portal is still empty of content, and on a single page, the owners cite hosting problems.

Most of those sites that opened after a break in work reconstructed their guest books and Internet forums, removing the most radical xenophobic statements from them.

At the same time, on March 9, 2006, an appeal to skinheads, with whom the deputy closely cooperates, was posted on the official website of State Duma deputy from the LDPR Nikolai Kuryanovich. The appeal actually contained a call for a change of tactics. The deputy openly called on "young Russian patriots" not to keep at home, for the purpose of conspiracy, neo-Nazi newspapers, literature and other right-wing materials, including in electronic form, and also to refuse to discuss their actions in the public Internet space, transferring this discussion to sphere of private negotiations. It should be noted that, although the deputy emphasized the inadmissibility of illegal methods of "struggle", his ideas about the legality are well known and extremely peculiar: in January 2006 he directly called for the hacking of "Russophobic sites", which is a criminal offense in Russia, and in 2005 supported the initiative of the DPNI on the creation of "patriotic" armed groups ostensibly to combat illegal immigrants and possible foreign aggression.
