Picketers detained in Petrozavodsk

On March 31, 2006, a protest action against conscription into the army took place in Petrozavodsk, during which two of its participants were detained.

Picketers Maxim Yefimov and Dmitry Loshchinin were detained for using a megaphone in the city.

The detainees spent three hours at the police station, where a protocol on an administrative offense was drawn up. The World Court fined the activists, and the head of the Youth Human Rights Group M. Efimov, who did not use a megaphone, was fined 1,000 rubles.

MPG activists intend to apply to the Petrozavodsk prosecutor's office with a complaint against law enforcement officers who exceeded their powers and terms of detention.
