According to I. Pavlov, on March 20, the Central District Prosecutor's Office opened a criminal case against G. Grabovoi under Art. 159 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation ("Fraud").

On April 7, G. Grabovoi was charged with fraud. On the same day, the Khamovniki Court issued a warrant for his arrest.

On May 17, 2006, the Moscow City Court dismissed G. Grabovoi's appeal and left him in custody.

On May 31, the Khamovniki Court of Moscow extended G. Grabovoi's detention until August 6.

In June, G. Grabovoi's lawyers filed a cassation appeal with the Moscow City Court against the decision of the Khamovniki Court.

On June 13, the Moscow prosecutor's office reclassified the accusatory article to G. Grabovoi. One of the defendant's lawyers, Anatoly Gromov, said that "Grigory Grabovoi was reclassified the accusatory article from 159 part 2 (fraud by a group of persons) to 159 part 4 (fraud committed by a group of persons by prior agreement on an especially large scale)".
