The court acquitted the Barnaul picketers

On April 24, 2006, information appeared that the Barnaul court had acquitted the detained participants in the rally on March 25, 2006 in defense of human rights and freedoms.

The cases were dismissed for lack of corpus delicti. Most of the participants were acquitted, but the rally participants depicted in photographs that were published in local newspapers were fined 500 rubles each.

Activists continue to fight for their rights: they filed applications against the head of the Zheleznodorozhny District Department of Internal Affairs, police lieutenant colonel A.V. Nulta and the chairman of the committee on youth affairs of the city administration, Yu.N. Eremeev with the requirement to initiate criminal cases under Part 2 of Art. 136 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation. The administration of enterprises and institutions where the picketers worked and studied received letters from A. Nulta and Y. Eremeev, which contained a thinly veiled demand to take action against the participants in the anti-government protest.
