Novosibirsk police detained skinheads, preventing a nationalist incident

On April 20, 2006, a nationalistic incident was prevented by law enforcement officers in Novosibirsk.

About 20 local skinheads dressed in black leather jackets gathered at the main entrance to the Novosibirsk State University building. The head of security drew attention to the suspicious group and noticed that they were looking for students of non-Slavic appearance in the crowd. When several skinheads separated from the group and followed the student from Kazakhstan, the security chief called the police.

Police officers who arrived on a call detained about 15 people who remained at the entrance to the university. They were brought to the duty unit of the Sovetskiy District Department of Internal Affairs, their identities were ascertained, their fingerprints were taken and after that they were released. Most of the detainees were from Berdsk. No criminal case was initiated against them, as no illegal acts were committed.

The head of security also alerted campus security, and they made sure that the student from Kazakhstan made it safely to the dormitory. The skinheads chasing him, noticing that they were being followed, retreated.
