On April 21, a group of Muslims held a picket in Nalchik. During Friday prayers, about 30 women gathered at the entrance to the Cathedral Mosque, holding posters demanding the resignation of the leadership of the Spiritual Administration of Muslims of Kabardino-Balkaria - Mufti Anas Pshikhachev and his deputies.
"Anas is the mufti of the Muslims of our republic. The position obliges him to protect Muslims. But Pshikhachev did not respond properly to any of the egregious facts of infringement of the rights of Muslims to freedom of religion. He was silent when mosques were closed, silent when dozens of Muslims were taken away from mosques to the police and subjected to torture and humiliation. Therefore, we demand that he resign as mufti," said picket participant Fatima Arkhagova.
At the same time, the picketers continued to collect signatures under an appeal to the President of Kabardino-Balkaria with a request to hand over the bodies of the militants killed in October 2005 to relatives. Already 9,000 signatures have been collected.
