On April 27, 2006, it became known that the Moscow authorities had banned a rally against holding a gay pride parade. A rally in defense of traditional values was scheduled for April 30, 2006 on Slavyanskaya Square.
As Kirill Frolov, press secretary of the Union of Orthodox Citizens, said on behalf of the organizers of the event, the refusal was motivated by the fact that the application was submitted too early.
The holding of the actual gay parade was scheduled for May 27, 2006, and representatives of the Moscow government have repeatedly stated that they will not allow it to be held in any form.
