In Yaroslavl, skinheads beat up a Hare Krishna

On May 21, 2006, at about 2:00 pm, in Yaroslavl on Kirova Street, two young shaven-headed men in massive boots beat up a 30-year-old member of the Yaroslavl branch of the "Center for Societies for Krishna Consciousness in Russia."

The attack took place in the center of the city on Kirov Street, where a group of Hare Krishnas, in national Indian clothes, were handing out books about their teachings. Suddenly, a skinhead attacked one of the Hare Krishnas and began to beat him, the second attacked him from behind. After the man fell, the attackers started kicking him. The Krishnaite did not defend himself, because this is contrary to the dogma. The intervention of passers-by (according to others, the workers who were repairing the building next door) stopped the skinheads. Shouting threats, the attackers fled.

"In almost twenty years of the existence of our organization in Yaroslavl, this is the first attack. The victim did not write a statement to the police, as he did not receive serious injuries ," the Yaroslavl branch of the Center for Societies for Krishna Consciousness in Russia said.
