On May 30, 2006, it became known that left-wing activist Olga Ivanova (Francesca), a journalism student at the Kuban State University, was reprimanded for traveling to the European Social Forum in Athens.
O. Ivanova is an excellent student, has the right to freely visit the university. Nevertheless, before her trip to Greece, she submitted an application to the dean's office with a request to allow her to participate in the Forum as a journalist, and upon her return she presented a certificate from the Institute of Globalization Problems, which invited her. "Novaya Gazeta Kuban" published an article and a photo essay prepared by O. Ivanova (and these materials were approved by the dean).
However, after a call from the regional administration, the dean of the faculty reprimanded Ivanova and said that "such trips are not allowed . "
After two reprimands, the student may be expelled, and O. Ivanova is now not sure that she will be able to graduate from the university: "Will the regional administration allow me to pass this session, because it was SHE who reprimanded me for going to the forum" .
The pressure on the activist began after she took part in a press conference on the dispersal of the rally on February 23, 2006.
