On June 15, 2006, Novye Izvestia reported on the initiative of Vladimir Kurilov, secretary of the political council of United Russia of Primorsky Krai, rector of the Far Eastern State University: 445 school graduates who received the recommendation of United Russia will enter the FENU free of charge, out of competition.
According to Kurilov's plan, party recommendations will be issued taking into account "the progress, activity and social status of parental families . " Preference will be given to orphans, disabled children, children from large and low-income families. At the same time, recommendations for admission are not necessary for all applicants, but only for those who go through targeted admission from United Russia. At the same time, an applicant does not have to be a member of United Russia youth organizations.
The same methods of selecting applicants are going to be introduced at the Far Eastern University of the Fishing Industry.
