Protest organizer accused of vandalism

On June 14, 2006 in Blagoveshchensk, Andrey Dugin, the organizer of a protest rally against the increase in housing and communal services tariffs, which took place in March 2006, was charged. He is accused under Art. 214 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation ("vandalism"). Dugin faces a fine of 40,000 rubles or arrest for up to three months.

Vandalism consists in the "desecration" of the Arc de Triomphe, on which slogans against the reform were hung during the rally. According to other information, the inscriptions on the Arc de Triomphe were spray-painted.

This is not the first attempt to implicate A. Dugin for organizing the March protest action. Initially, he was charged with organizing an unauthorized march and hooliganism.
