M. Shangareev convicted under Article 282

On June 21, 2006, the Narimanov District Court of the Astrakhan Region issued a second sentence to local businessman Mansur Shangareev. He was convicted under part 2, clause "a" of Article 282 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation ("incitement of hatred or enmity, as well as humiliation of human dignity").

Earlier, M. Shangareev was found guilty of possession of ammunition and drugs.

Recall that the criminal case under Art. 282 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation, the prosecutor's office submitted to the court on December 28, 2005. In court, the testimony of the chief regional mufti, Nazimbek Khazryat Ilyasov, was read out, according to which, in the mosque of the village of Staraya Kucherganovka, Mansur Shangareev was engaged in inciting ethnic hatred and organizing a Wahhabi cell. Witnesses for the prosecution reported that the defendant "incited ethnic intolerance among the parishioners of the mosque . " The prosecutor of the district, Vakhit Daudov, however, clarified that he does not consider Mansur Shangareev " "inciting Wahhabism, but only hatred and enmity .

As a result, the court fully supported the prosecution, and the defendant was assigned two years in a colony-settlement. Taking into account the previous term, as the judge explained, Mansur Shangareev will have to serve four years in a colony-settlement.

Shangareev's lawyers intend to file a cassation appeal with the Supreme Court.
