Prosecutor General: “This is a complex problem”
On August 2, 2006, Prosecutor General of the Russian Federation Yuri Chaika took part in a coordination meeting on the fight against crime and corruption in the Northwestern Federal District. Answering questions from journalists, the Prosecutor General noted the shortcomings of the state prosecution when the jury considered criminal cases related to crimes committed based on national hatred.
“This is a complex problem. There are shortcomings in the investigation, in addition, the state prosecution sometimes loses,” said Yu. Chaika. According to him, a number of measures should be taken to correct this situation. “There is something to think about in terms of qualifications, development of new methods and training of employees,” the Prosecutor General noted.
Along with this, Y. Chaika emphasized that it is impossible to exclude jurors from considering criminal cases initiated on the grounds of crimes on national grounds, “since the existing law is mandatory.”
