On August 30, 2006, the prosecutor's office of the Kondopozhsky district of the Republic of Karelia initiated a criminal case under item "a" part 2 of Art. 105 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation (murder of two or more persons) and Part 2 of Art. 213 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation (hooliganism committed by a group of persons) on the fact of a mass brawl near the Chaika restaurant, which resulted in the death of two people and the consequences of this incident, resulting in a series of anti-Caucasian actions (pogroms and arson) on September 1 , 2 and 3 .
The investigation found that as a result of the fight, two people died (Usin and Slezov), three people are in the Kondopoga Central District Hospital with penetrating stab wounds of internal organs (O. Popov, SM. Petrov, V. Simanauskas), three people were taken to the Central District Hospital with bruises and cut wounds (V. Fomin, E. Geroev, V. Enkov). Thus, the Prosecutor General's Office officially confirms the fact that two local residents were killed in a fight, and not four, as previously reported. Also, according to official data from the prosecutor's office, 6 people received injuries of varying severity; 5 suspected participants in the fight were detained, 3 of them are under arrest.
On the fact of the pogroms on September 1,2 and 3, the prosecutor's office initiated a criminal case under parts 1,2,3 of Art. 212 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation (mass riots). On September 2, the operational headquarters of the Ministry of Internal Affairs was deployed in Kondopoga, the Prime Minister and Minister of Internal Affairs of the Republic of Karelia, a representative of the Federal Security Service of the Russian Federation arrived in the city.
On September 3, 109 people were detained for committing administrative offenses, 25 of whom are currently under administrative arrest, while judges are considering materials on another 25 detainees.
On the night of September 3-4, law enforcement officers detained 2 local residents who were trying to throw Molotov cocktails at the Chaika restaurant.
