To the prosecutor's office - for hate speech

In September 2006, the deputy governor of the Saratov region, Vladimir Babichev (formerly the prosecutor of the Kursk region), applied to the regional prosecutor's office demanding that the local weekly Vzglyad and its journalist Maxim Burevestnik be prosecuted for inciting ethnic hatred.

The reason for the appeal was two articles by Maxim Burevestnik, which are clearly anti-Caucasian in nature (according to the newspaper’s definition, the articles “expressed the position of the editors: the rampant gangsterism with national coloring is taking place in Saratov is to blame for corrupt officials in law enforcement and government bodies who condone people from the southern republics with criminal inclinations" ).
