Priest Igor Sheverdin was elected head of the village of Ladovskaya Balka in the Stavropol Territory for 26 years. After that, the ruling bishop banned him from the priesthood. “According to church canons, a priest cannot be a lay leader,” commented the press secretary of the diocese, Yevgeny Bronsky, commenting on this decision.
