On October 9, 2006, in the Sverdlovsky District Court of Kostroma, four skinheads were sentenced under Art. 282 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation ("incitement of hatred or enmity, as well as humiliation of human dignity, with the use of violence") for attacking students from China and a girl born in Azerbaijan. Kostroma residents Denis Mikhaylin, Igor Utkin, Yevgeny Batov, Andrey Zaitsev were given suspended sentences ranging from one to three and a half years.
Recall that two criminal cases initiated on these crimes under Article 282 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation were merged into one.
The organizers of the fight were detained and then taken into custody on April 22, 2006. According to investigators, the attack on the Azerbaijani girl was committed by Igor Utkin. From the materials of the criminal case, it follows that Denis Mikhailin, who "offered to start it, experiencing feelings of national hostility towards the Chinese," became the initiator of the attack on Chinese students .
The trial in the case lasted six months. During the searches, RNE leaflets, "Let's liberate our native land from Jewish fascism" , nationalist literature, bats, hats with holes for the eyes were found in the apartments of the detainees.
"He is a skinhead. Several times he offered me to go through initiation. He said that you need to fight for your skin color, get rid of dirt ," his friend said during the investigation about one of the defendants in the case.
After the beginning of the investigation, the suspects began to renounce their adherence to the ideas of skinheads, declaring that " "these are the prosecutor's office's fantasies .
The public prosecutor, senior prosecutor of the prosecutor's office of the city of Kostroma, Igor Podturov, asked to be found guilty under Art. 282 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation and insisted on severe punishment - real imprisonment. In the last word, the accused asked not to deprive them of their freedom.
