Racist incident at football

On October 22, 2006, during a football match between Zenit and Lokomotiv, Zenit forward Andrei Arshavin made a racist statement about Lokomotiv's black midfielder Larry Kingston. This was reported to journalists by L. Kingston himself in an interview given after the match. The midfielder also said that he heard a lot of racist shouting at him from the stands of the fans.

Andrey Arshavin denies accusations of racism. "As an assistant to the captain of Zenit and just an intelligent person, I never allow myself such antics. Racism and football are not compatible ," he said.
