Orthodox Christians are against celebrating Halloween
On October 28, a picket against the celebration of Halloween was held in Novopushkinsky Square in the center of Moscow, organized by the Georgievtsy youth Orthodox movement. Several dozen people took part in the action.
According to Interfax-religion, "the picketers were holding a poster with a pumpkin painted on it - a symbol of this holiday, crossed out with a red line. In addition, everyone was invited to write with a marker about their attitude to Halloween on two billboards that were right there, and drink pumpkin juice - thus the organizers made it clear that 'the pumpkin should be used for its intended purpose, and not turn this vegetable into a symbol of disgusting pagan triumph'".
The agency also cites a leaflet handed out by members of the Georgiyevtsy movement: "Modern popular culture imposes false symbols on young people. Satanic and pagan in nature, they are actively used as brands to lure the younger generation into clubs for supposedly harmless parties, where for more ' fun 'the guys are offered a 'pill' or 'a joint'".
The head of the communication service of the DECR MP, priest Mikhail Prokopenko, told Interfax: "The celebration of Halloween raises the question that cultural borrowing should be carried out with caution, and speaks of the continued cultural omnivorousness and promiscuity of our people. I consider this trend very sad."
