In connection with the increasing number of attacks on foreign students in Russia, self-defense seminars were organized for foreigners studying in educational institutions of Petropavlovsk-Kamchatsky. At the end of October 2006, the first lesson was held for 12 students of Kamchatka State University. Vitus Bering, who came from Korea, China and Japan.
Students are taught self-defense by representatives of law enforcement agencies and specialists from the youth affairs department of the city administration. They also explain how foreigners need to behave in the event of an attack, what protective measures can be used, where and who to turn to for help in such situations.
“As part of preventive measures, it was decided to hold a similar conversation in order to protect foreign students from possible unpleasant situations,” the city administration reports.
