The Moscow Regional Court sentenced a former RNU member

On November 15, 2006, the Moscow Regional Court sentenced Yury Kovalyov, a former RNE member, to 6 years' imprisonment in a penal colony. He was found guilty of intimidating witnesses at the Blokhin-Konovalenko trial and of resisting FSB officers.

Y. Kovalev also took part in organizing pickets in defense of Blokhin and Konovalenko.

The investigation established that a former RNE member, 52-year-old native of Severodvinsk Yuri Kovalev and 32-year-old Muscovite Alexander Matasov sent anonymous letters with RNU symbols and threats to participants in the process.

The former RNE member was detained. His accomplice was released on bail. Taking advantage of this, Matasov disappeared and is now on the wanted list.

At the trial, Yu. Kovalev completely denied his guilt, although he admitted the fact of acquaintance with Blokhin and Konovalenko.
