In Yekaterinburg, police discussed issues of combating youth extremism

On November 30, 2006, in the Sverdlovsk region, under the chairmanship of the First Deputy Chief of the Central Internal Affairs Directorate, Major General Vladimir Filippov, a collegium was held, at which issues related to countering youth extremism were considered.

The head of the department for combating organized crime of the Main Internal Affairs Directorate, Lieutenant Colonel Sergei Vasiliev, noted the presence in the region of a number of extremist youth organizations capable of committing various crimes, including on the basis of inciting ethnic hatred. For some reason, "skinheads, national Bolsheviks, anarchists" were named among these organizations .

In 2006, in the Sverdlovsk region, according to police statistics, 10 nationalist crimes were committed, 8 of which were uncovered in hot pursuit. 12 persons were brought to criminal responsibility.

Boris Timonichenko, head of the Internal Affairs Directorate of Yekaterinburg, said that activists of the extremist movement have become more active in Yekaterinburg. Students make up approximately 30% of the representatives of these movements. According to the head of the Department of Internal Affairs, the police know both ordinary members of the groupings and its leaders, all of them are under constant control.

The Board noted that 732 foreign students study at the universities of Yekaterinburg. Therefore, the main professional work will be carried out in the youth and student environment.

General V. Filippov sharply criticized a number of heads of city and regional authorities for inadequate measures to counter extremism, and set specific tasks to improve work in this area of ​​activity.
