Surb-Khach pogrom participant convicted in Rostov-on-Don

On December 13, 2006, the court of the Voroshilovsky district of Rostov-on-Don found a 23-year-old resident of the city of Mishchenko, who attacked the museum of Armenian culture located in the Surb-Khach temple, guilty under Article 186 (“vandalism”) and sentenced him by 6 months in a colony-settlement.

It should be reminded that on August 8, 2006 it was announced that a member of the skinhead organization had been detained and confessed. Mishchenko later retracted his confession, saying he was forced to make it. The lawyer is convinced that his client is not involved in this crime, and the real perpetrators have not been found. “On August 6, he was detained in the Voroshilovsky district for allegedly urinating in the wrong place, he was given an administrative penalty of 5 days and sent to Aksai for some reason. And on August 8, he wrote a confession, confessing to vandalism,” said lawyer Yevgeny Puzarin.
