The Supreme Court of Kabardino-Balkaria announced the verdict against two members of the Yarmuk Jamaat. Magomed Zhantuyev and Ismagil Baluyev were detained on April 29, 2005 in one of the garages on Kalyuzhny Street in Nalchik. Four more members of the jamaat were then killed by policemen during a special operation. Several other members of the organization were killed in January 2005.
The defendants were charged under a number of articles of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation - illegal possession of weapons, illegal crossing of the state border, smuggling of weapons, participation in an illegal armed formation, encroachment on the life of law enforcement officers, etc.
The jury found M. Zhantuev guilty on all counts. The guilt of I. Baluev was proved only in terms of carrying a gas pistol, converted into a firearm.
Discussion of the verdict in the Supreme Court of the KBR is scheduled for January 11. Psomiadi's lawyer said that the verdict was unexpected for her: this criminal case is purely legal in nature, so it could not be considered with the participation of a jury. The lawyer does not rule out that the presiding judge will not agree with the jury's verdict.
