First court hearing in Kondopoga

On January 25, 2007, the first court hearing began in the case of a fight in a restaurant in Kondopoga, after which mass riots occurred in the city. In the dock are local residents Yuri Pliev and Sergei Mozgalev. According to investigators, it was they who provoked the fight in the restaurant, beating the bartender and the administrator.

Yu. Pliev stated at the court hearing that he did not plead guilty. S. Mozgalev pleaded guilty only partially. After considering the petitions of the defense representatives, the court began interrogating one of the Azerbaijani victims.

Let us recall that Pliev and Mozgalev were charged under Part 2 of Art. 213 (“hooliganism”) and part 2 of Art. 116 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation ("assault"). Both are in custody.

The meeting is held openly, with representatives of the press present in the hall.

On January 22, 2007, the Prosecutor's Office of Karelia completed investigative actions in another case initiated on the murder of two residents of Kondopoga in the Chaika restaurant, as well as on the facts of hooliganism and harm to the health of nine more citizens. Six people from the North Caucasus are defendants in this case.

In addition, active investigative work is underway in two criminal cases regarding improper performance of official duties by officials of the Kondopoga City Department of Internal Affairs and the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Karelia.
