The President of the Russian Federation on the reasons for the growth of xenophobia

On February 1, 2007, at the sixth annual press conference for Russian and Western journalists, President Vladimir Putin, answering a question about the reasons for the growth of xenophobia in Russia, said that the latter is associated "with a certain ideological vacuum that arose after the collapse of the Soviet Union, with a feeling infringement of the main national groups" .

As one of the reasons for xenophobia, the President named the unresolved issues with migration. "All the former republics of the Soviet Union have become independent states, and issues, say, in the labor market have not always been resolved in favor of the indigenous population of Russia, in favor of the citizens of the Russian Federation," the president said .
