A priest was attacked in Voronezh

On March 4, an unknown person stabbed the rector of the St. Nicholas Church in Voronezh, Priest Peter Petrov, with a penknife. The 62-year-old priest, having received a cut in the chin area, refused hospitalization.

The attacker turned out to be a permanent parishioner of St. Nicholas Church. He explained his actions by the fact that he "beguiled the devil."

On the fact of the attack in the Central District Department of Internal Affairs of Voronezh, a criminal case was initiated under Part 1 of Article 213 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation (“hooliganism”), later reclassified under Article 30 and Article 105 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation (“attempted murder”). The case has been referred to the prosecutor's office. The prosecutor's office began checking on the involvement of the attacker in the sect of Satanists.

According to Interfax, Father Peter was taken to the regional clinical hospital and operated on.

On March 6, Mikhail Usov, a senior assistant to the regional prosecutor, told Interfax that a petition had been sent to the court to arrest a parishioner of St. Nicholas Church who was detained on suspicion of a crime. According to M. Usov, during the search of the attacker's apartment, no literature and objects that would indicate his passion for Satanism were found.

According to Nezavisimaya Gazeta , the suspect has already been sent for a forensic medical examination. There is evidence that he suffers from a mental disorder and has been treated in specialized medical institutions more than once.

On March 13, it became known that the suspect Oleg Ryzhikov was charged under Art. 30 and 105 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation.
