On March 8, 2007, in the center of Voronezh, three young men beat Nigerian citizen Edem Uduak Francis (b. 1981), a 2nd year student at the Voronezh State Medical Academy (VSMA). The incident occurred near one of the dormitories of Voronezh State University. The Nigerian did not seek medical help.
On March 10, 2007, the victim saw near the hostel and identified the persons who had beaten him the day before, after which he called the police. Two of Edem Uduak's three attackers have been detained . Investigative actions are being carried out. A criminal case was initiated under Part 2 of Art. 116 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation (“battery committed out of hooligan motives”).
It should be noted that not far from the site of the attack on Edem Uduak Francis in February 2004, a student from Guinea-Bissau, Amaru Lima, was killed .
From March 8 to March 10, 2007, a series of attacks on foreign students occurred in Voronezh. An Iraqi citizen was beaten under similar circumstances.
