A verdict was passed in Naberezhnye Chelny in the Hizb ut-Tahrir case

were sentenced in Naberezhnye Chelny On March 26, six defendants on charges of involvement in the Hizb ut-Tahrir organization.

Five people were sentenced under Art. 282-2 part 2 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation ("participation in the activities of a prohibited organization") to imprisonment with serving a sentence in a colony-settlement:

Rais Gimadiev and Artur Iskanderov - for 1 year 7 months;

Marat Mullaganiev - for 1 year 6 months;

Viktor Sychev - for 11 months;

Ildar Faskhutdinov - for 1 year.

All of them were released in the courtroom, because. each of them was held in custody during the preliminary investigation for just such a period.

The sixth defendant, Ildar Shaikhutdinov, who was sentenced in 2005 to 2 years probation on a similar charge, was sentenced to 2 years in a colony-settlement under Art. 282-2 part 1 (organization of activities of a prohibited organization).

The Civic Assistance Committee and the Human Rights Center "Memorial" issued a press release stating that these organizations "for more than a year and a half have been monitoring the progress of the investigation of this criminal case and have statements from the accused and witnesses about the use of threats and torture against them and other illegal investigative methods.
